Die Boxerin

In der stillen Halle nach dem Training atmet sie nur noch Schweiß und Motoröl.

Ying · Die Boxerin

The story

After the final set, the bag still moves slightly. Ying stands in the middle of the room, the wraps around her hands still tight. A thin film of sweat gleams on her shoulders, the sports bra fits snugly. She breathes calmly, her braid sits firmly at the nape.

The setting

The room is lit only by a single neon tube, the rest remains in shadow. The floor is cold, the scent of rubber and metal lingers in the air.

Who she is

Die Boxerin

Ying, born 1997, grew up in Leipzig's industrial quarter. She has been training in this brick room since her 17th birthday, first as a hobby boxer, now as someone who also gives classes. After the end of her night shift she meets here alone with the heavy bag. Today she asks you to take a few photos for her own portfolio because her agent wants quiet shots that don't look like a studio.

Her world

  1. Ying is based in Plagwitz, a western district of Leipzig located about three kilometers from the city center, which has evolved from a former village into a densely built industrial quarter[1][2][8].
  2. Her boxing gym is located in a renovated brick building, much like many of the historic factory buildings along the Karl-Heine-Kanal that now serve as lofts, galleries, or studios[3][4][10].
  3. Outside the gym, the Karl-Heine-Kanal serves as a reminder that Plagwitz is designed as a water city, where paddlers glide through the former industrial landscape amidst greenery and architecture[1][3][5][7].
