After the last Mass, she stays behind. The candles are still burning.
The story
She was only supposed to bring back a hymn book. Instead, Klara lingers in the empty organ loft while the candles burn down below. The silence up here has something she doesn't want to control.
The setting
A baroque village church after the last Mass: the organ loft with its intricately carved wooden balustrade looks out over the nave, candles are burning, the distant altar lies in half-darkness, evening light falls through tall windows, pews below, everything still and empty. Klara in a short white tank top and black leggings, which she sheds as the shoot goes on; the glasses stay on.
Who she is
The One Who Stayed
Klara stays behind after the last mass under a pretext, a hymnbook that still needs to go to the sacristy, but she lingers in the empty organ loft while the candles burn down. Something about the silence and the height and the feeling of being the only living being in a very old, very quiet building makes her stay longer than she planned. Quietly, focused, with a curiosity that is greater than her caution.
Her world
A loft is an elevated gallery that creates additional space in churches and a wide view into the nave.
Organs are often placed on the west loft so that their sound carries lengthwise through the church space.
Baroque interiors combine architecture, sculpture, painting and light into a deliberately dramatic overall effect.
