Frida · After Hours · The Workshop

The story

Her grandfather's workshop, taken over and made her own. After hours, when it gets quiet, Frida often stays on, lit only by the workbench lamp. You're there with the camera while she keeps working.

The setting

A rustic wood workshop: a dark wooden shelf full of tools, a workbench with wood shavings, warm lamp light, sawdust on the floor, an overhead pulley with a chain. Frida fully nude, dark angular glasses still on, working with a tool in hand, focused.

Who she is

In the workshop

Frida has taken over her grandfather's old workshop and made it her own. After closing time, when the last customers have gone, she often keeps working alone in the glow of the workbench lamp. Concentrated, self-assured, proud of her craft; she dislikes interruptions at work, yet that is precisely what draws the camera to her.

Her world

  1. The basic forms of many woodworking tools evolved only gradually over generations.
  2. A plane removes controlled thin shavings and smooths surfaces with a precisely adjusted cutting edge.
  3. A chisel separates wood fibers through pressure or blows and is used especially for joints and recesses.
