Cloudburst · Country Road

Chain off, sky wide open: a cyclist stranded in a summer storm. You pull over.

Anni · Cloudburst · Country Road

The story

She only wanted to get to Grünau, on her bike, outrunning the weather. Halfway there the sky burst open. Now she sits at the roadside, the chain off, the white shirt soaked and long since see-through, and nobody stops for miles. Until you come. She looks at you, defiant, water dripping from her lashes. You can't drive her home. But if you're standing in the rain anyway, you should get something out of it.

The setting

A country road in the mountains, a summer storm. The asphalt gleams, the meadows are dripping, thunder rolls behind the peaks. The red bike lies in the wet grass, next to it Anni, barefoot, her denim skirt heavy with rain, the shirt clinging to her like a second skin. The rain is warm. And it won't stop any time soon.

Who she is

The Stranded One

Anni only wanted to cycle quickly to the neighboring village of Grünau, but halfway the sky burst open with a summer thunderstorm and heavy rain, and then the chain slipped off too. Now she sits by the roadside, her red bike in the wet meadow, the white shirt clinging transparently to her skin, and no one stops for miles. Until you arrive. Defiant and playful, she is already too soaked to stay modest; if stranded, she might as well come away with good pictures.

Her world

  1. The Traunstein, guardian of the Salzkammergut, rises 1,691 m above sea level over Anni's Alm valley.
  2. Her heat thunderstorm does not come from far away. It forms locally from a clear sky, preferably in the afternoon.
  3. Meteorologists place the maximum of thunderstorms between 15 and 17 o'clock, with lightning activity peaking from 15 to 20 o'clock.
